Just another UMW Blogs.org weblog

I attended the Collaboration Concepts session today with the moderator JeffC. During the session I learned that TappedIn can be an important resource in virtual collaboration amongst teachers.  TappedIn can also be used a place where teachers can share thier work and ideas. Jeff taught the group how to join other TappedIn groups which I thought was pretty cool. There were all types of groups that catered to the subject that you are teaching. I signed up for the groups..English Pow Wow, WebQuest Designer & Users, Write Talk, and Web Tools for Education. I enjoyed the session although it was slow due to the fact that there was some over zealous chatters in the group so Jeff would get sidetracked easily. Also, Jeff shared a portal site I thought was awesome because the site focuses on Collaborative possibilities of the net. The site is http://www.snurl.com/web2tools . We also explored different web tools and websites provided by the portal. One website that i like the alot was www.cueflash.com its a website that allows you to make virtual note cards for whatever subject that you teach. Its a cool tool for you to share with your students or future students whichever is the case. Also, www.GoGooligans.com is a search engine for Kids that I think is a great website to have students use because all the information is filtered so that studnets won’t get into anything that they aren’t supposed to. During the session we were all encouraged to share ideas and sites that we had found. I am really glad that I know about the portal because it has excellent websites on it for teachers, parents, and students.

TappedIn was something that was new to me. Tapping in to TappedIn.org is like exploring a world made just for teachers. It is a great resource for teachers to communicate with each other on many different levels and it is also a good resource for teachers to share with thier students. The tricks and tips session was informational in providing me with the know how on how to use the tapped in website. The moderator Bjb was extremely helpful in providing info on how to use the site. She was nice and pleasant with all of the questions that were being asked of her. I especially liked the student campus because it is a great way for me to connect with my students after school hours. I was thinking that I could use that option to meet online with my students at a certain time in order to answer questions that they may have about thier homework or anything that has been going on in class. I like the fact that I could set class hours so that my students would be able to chat with me during those times.  I especially liked the fact that I could read thier chat logs. It would be kind of cool to see what everyone is talking about after class. Overall, I thought that the session was informational and it provided me with instructions on how to use the website with ease.
